There is no Evidence for God because there is no Evidence for God!

With the CARM forum down for three weeks now, I am obliged to read the articles on the site. One that caught my eye is; "Atheists err when asking for material evidence to prove God’s existence".

https://carm.org/atheists-err-when-asking-for-material-evidence-to-prove-gods-existence

He says:

First of all, the scientific method is a system of learning that consists of observation, hypothesis, experimentation, prediction, and theory.  It is based on logic and observations of the material universe and its properties.

Second, the scientific method, along with a materialistic worldview, necessarily excludes transcendence – that which exists independent of the universe.  Therefore, it can’t detect what is outside of the material realm since it is based on observing things inside the material realm.

Third, the Christian worldview proclaims a transcendent God who exists outside of, and independent of, the material universe.  In other words, the Christian God is not dependent upon the material universe or its properties for his existence.

Therefore, to ask for scientifically testable, material, non-transcendent evidence for an immaterial, transcendent God is the wrong approach because it is a category mistake.

He goes on to explain some of that, but essentially that is his argument. There is no evidence for God because there is no evidence for God!

Sure, he is trying to make the point that we would not expect to see evidence for God, but he is still admitting there is no evidence for God.

And I would say he is wrong. If the Christian God did exist, we would expect to see evidence of that. Christians regularly pray to God, so we should see the relatives and loved ones of Christians recover from illness with unfailing regularity. We do not.

Christians are in daily communion with God, so we should expect them to agree on theological and moral matters. We would expect that they can not only ask God questions, but that they should get consistent answers from God. Clearly they do not.

Every church - every house owned by a Christian - that is struck by lightning is evidence that there is no God, and every such building that has lightning protection is evidence of the Christians lack of faith.
