Orwellian Doublethink At the Discovery Institute

 The Discovery Institute's raison d'être is to destroy evolution. They have no science on their side, so they are reduced to empty rhetoric and underhand tricks. The latest post by David Klinghoffer is a great example of the sort of shenanigans they get up to, and the doublethink required to believe them.

Klinghoffer introduces the article:

The year so far has delivered a stunning lesson in the fragility of freedom and of civilization. Endless lockdowns matched with urban chaos — it’s hard to believe these two shattering phenomena overlapped entirely by accident. How exactly, though, do they relate? At Mind Matters, Michael Egnor suggests Darwinism as a missing link.

So to be clear here, Klinghoffer is claiming that Darwinism is to blame for both lockdown and what he calls urban chaos.

He begins with the usual creationist lie that Darwinism caused the Nazis (and communist Russia). It is not true - but the Discovery Institute are here to destroy Darwinism, not to tell the truth. That is the Christian way, right?

In other words, Darwinism provides a framework and pretext for totalitarian thinking, which sees itself as fulfilling an evolutionary destiny. You can have totalitarian tyranny without Darwin, but the idea of evolution paves the way.

So in Klinghoffer mind, Darwinism leads to totalitarian thinking, which leads to... Corona virus? Urban chaos? He does not explain.

Why not?

Because he does not really care about either. All he wants to do destroy Darwinism, and the best argument he has is the lie that Darwinism led to Hitler, so he pushes that lie ever chance he can.

He continues:

The University of Washington climate scientist took a two-hour walking tour last week through largely abandoned and boarded up downtown Seattle. From lockdown to looting and riot, our once-lovely city has been on a mad plunge to suicide.

Where is the connection to Darwinism? Or even to totalitarianism?

Lock down is due to corona virus. No one is to blame for that - except maybe God.

Looting and rioting are due to decades of abuse of black people, much of which was promulgated and performed by white Christians. The slave-owners in the south were white Christians, the KKK were white Christians.

But the Discovery Institute does not get funding for attacking Christianity, so the truth lies trampled in the mud.

What else does Klinghoffer say?

On his blog, Mass compared what has happened to the city to Kristallnacht, the November 9, 1938 “Night of Broken Glass” in Hitler’s Germany. An online mob came for Professor Mass for that one, and he got cancelled from his gig commenting on the weather — the weather! — for NPR. 

He is seriously drawing an analogy between how Nazis in Germany treated Jews and a guy getting abuse online? I am pretty sure Mass can turn off his internet, and stop any abuse in an instant. The Jews in German did not have that option.

And it is worth noting that those Nazis smashing windows and later rounding up Jews for concentration camps were white Christians.

But what does the truth matter to these people?

While Nazis rampaged against Jewish businesses, Antifa and other “protestors” have targeted all business and normal life in general. 

Does he know what "targeted" actually means? If they attack everything, then it is not targeted, David...

In 2020, our culture could well be poised on the edge of something still darker than what we’ve seen so far. Antifa was at it once more last night in Seattle, as Chicago again witnessed rampant looting and anti-police violence.

By "darker", I assume he means improved for black people. It would be great to think that these protests have been a wake-up call to all white people that, well, "black lives matter" and that racism is abhorrent. I doubt it will be perfect, but I hope it will at least be better and improving.
